Opportunities for Equipping
Adult Core Seminars: Core Seminars, our adult education hour, help us to comprehend the subtle intricacies and overarching truths of our God and His Word. Topics range from theology, to ministry, to history. Our core classes run on multiple tracks and meet every Sunday morning. Core Seminars are open to all and are designed to help attendees gain a comprehensive Christian education in a few years’ time. Check the worship folder announcements for offerings, updates, and locations.
Children/Youth Classes: We treasure our children because “sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him” (Psalm 127:3). Jesus himself cherished children and blessed them, saying, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). It is a joy and privilege to serve and pray for the next generation. We believe that the parents of the church are primarily responsible under God to bring up their children in the training and instruction of the Lord. Our role in children’s/youth ministries is to support and encourage the ministry of the parents by faithfully teaching God’s Word and modeling genuine Christianity for the children in our care. We pray that by God’s grace, over the years, all the children in our trust “will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor” (Isaiah 61:3). Check the worship folder announcements for updates and locations.
Discipling: Discipleship is not an option in the Christian life, but rather, is the way of the Christian life. Simply put, to be a Christian means to be a follower, or disciple, of Jesus Christ. As such, every Christian is a disciple and bears both the responsibility and divine ability to be what Christ desires and commands. Christ Church takes seriously our Lord’s commission to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20), and we accomplish this purpose by employing community small group teaching fellowships as a vehicle through which every member may develop into a mature and obedient follower of Jesus Christ. In turn, consistency and accountability in the Christian life is accomplished by augmenting our small group discipling process with one-on-one mentoring (see below). Community small group teaching fellowships center on fellowship, prayer, sermon review and application, Bible study, evangelism, assimilation, and community service. While every member of Christ Church is automatically assigned to a small group teaching fellowship, guests may check the worship folder announcements for dates, times, and places.
Mentoring: In one-on-one mentoring relationships, two Christians of the same gender meet to study Scripture, hold one another accountable, and pray. Within this basic framework, mentoring relationships may take a number of different shapes: an elder member may mentor a younger member, a more mature Christian might mentor a younger Christian, or peers in the faith might effectively mentor one another. The mentoring meetings center on open and honest discussion, application of Scripture or Christian devotional material to daily living, personal accountability for appropriating the spiritual disciplines into Christian living, and prayer. Every member of Christ Church is strongly encouraged to participate in a one-on-one mentoring relationship for purposes of cultivating a Christian mind, encouraging spiritual growth, and helping us to bear one another’s sorrows and celebrate one another’s joys. Call the church office to begin the process.
Leadership Development: Leadership development seminars provide opportunities for education and training that is specific to certain functions or tasks of the church. Topics range from effective church leadership, to Christian apologetics, to lay counseling, to personal evangelism, to contemporary issues of cultural concern. Leadership development seminars are periodically held throughout the year, and most seminars are open to anyone who is interested. Check the worship folder announcements for topics, dates, times, and locations.
